Camera Repair

I have gotten a lot of satisfaction from restoring my old cameras to operating condition. While I enjoy sharing the results of my efforts, fixing cameras for others is not something I would undertake.

The most skillful and versatile camera repairman I have come across is Dean Williams. Dean seems to be able to restore just about any old camera, including some that most won't touch. He can be contacted directly through his web site, and you can also find him at Nelsonfoto.com where he often shares detailed and well-illustrated information about working on many classic cameras.

There are some others who have demonstrated a high level of craftsmanship and knowledge related to old cameras. Mike Kovacs, for instance has done some superb restorations of Contax rangefinders and classic Rolleis. Jon Goodman seems to be one of the few people out there able to take on the repair of the Zeiss Ikon Contaflex, and he also markets everyone's favorite light seal kit. Mike Elek is knowledgable about all things Zeiss. All of these fellows can also be found at the Nelsonfoto site, and all are generous with advice, as well as excellent photographers with a real love for classic cameras.

For very old cameras in need of shutter work, try Flutot's Camera Repair.
